My name is Sara and Wickham Cottage is the home that I have created where I can be artistic and free to enjoy nature and history and cultivate beauty and joy!
I learned to knit from a young age--maybe eight or nine--and I have never stopped. In 1999 I became a Master Knitter as certified by TKGA, completing the entire course in one year after which I went on to knit professionally for several yarns companies and designers. In 2000 I became a professional designer myself and have been published by many knitting magazines, yarn companies, and have contributed to about a dozen books. I even published a book of my own which is published through Martingale & Company. Cable Confidence is available as an ebook (although you can also have it printed through Amazon) and contains patterns and instructions for knitting cables. Cables and texture remain my favorite form of the craft, but I also love Fair Isle and Norwegian stranded work. Should you stop by Ravelry, you can find me at "saralouise".
Lately, I've rekindled my love for counted cross-stitch. I began doing cross stitch, again--when I was quite young--by working crosses on printed fabric. My grandmother gave me a tablecloth to work on which I still have today and I also completed a colorful table runner which is a study in how NOT to keep the back of your work! I quickly leapt over to counted cross-stitch using Aida cloth in the mid-1980s but am now fully on board with using linen.
Other creative pursuits include needlepoint, spinning, quilting, embroidery, and the occasional crochet. I learned how to do tatting when I was younger but rarely pick that up anymore. Wickham Cottage is the place where I blend all my interests together and hope to share them with you!!
